I will help you create SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, results-oriented, and time-limited) goals, accommodations, and modifications for your child’s IEP that are specific to your child’s individual needs. I know the options for what accommodations to ask for and how to individualize goals and accommodations.
FIND SCHOOL PLACEMENTS
I help parents find school placements that will meet the emotional, social, behavioral, and educational needs of the student. I often go with parents to tour schools so I can assist with asking the right questions and determining if the school is a good match for the family. I help parents understand the laws and their rights for an out-of-district placement.
FACILITATE PARENT SUPPORT GROUPS
I have led support groups for parents and caregivers with children of all ages since 2002. Being in a support group with other parents who have children with special needs makes you feel less alone. Meeting people who have experienced some of the same struggles as you can help ease the isolation on your journey and be a resource for interventions and community networks.
I am qualified to facilitate and lead support groups because I have completed the Principles of Group Psychotherapy Certificate Program from the American Group Psychotherapy Association.
PREPARE FOR & ADVOCATE IN EI, CSE, & CPSE MEETINGS
As a special education advocate, I meet with parents to prepare them and teach them what their rights are in the special education system.
I also attend CPSE and CSE meetings as an advocate to help parents through this difficult time and to help children get the services they need.
FIND COMMUNITY RESOURCES
I have spent the past 18 years compiling a comprehensive resources guide to help families with children who have special needs access recreational and community resources in the Westchester area. This guide has been published three times in Westchester Parent Magazine and is utilized by SEPTA organizations throughout Westchester County.
COLLEGE LIFE COACHING
I can help prepare your child for a successful college experience before they get to college and when they are at college by helping them develop their social skills, self-care skills, self-advocacy, executive functioning skills, problem-solving skills, and by teaching them how to seek out the proper resources at school to succeed.
